Demon Whiskey Has Been Proofed!
I finished going through the proof copy of Demon Whiskey today and it's good! There are three full new scenes, and over a dozen extended scenes! This is good!
One of the reasons I'm excited about this project is because a lot of people tell me to stop talking about it. I know that sounds backwards, but the heart-theme, the soul-plot is a hard line for a lot of people, and it makes them very uncomfortable. Paige lost her daughter and in this series, she's fighting to get her back and then to make a life with her, which is extremely hard to do.
You know, it's really easy to hear, "You should really stop talking about that," or "You should warn people that they might be triggered," and to say, "Okay. You're right. I'll shut up." And that's what I've been doing for years. Decades.
Going through this set again, I'm reminded of how far I've come. I've got people in my real life who are going through similar things - moms, dads, grandparents - on all sides of this fight because this is so prevalent in our society, and I'm at a point where I can help most of them. Not all. Obviously, but I'm able to see them as humans which is something a lot of people can't do.
And I'm also excited because I'm getting to add the witchy stuff back in! Dear gods! When I wrote this series the first time, witch fiction was just starting, and all of my editors told me I needed to dial the witchcraft back. I needed to take the spells out. I needed to take the religion out. And... they were wrong! Putting it back in there has been just absolutely amazing! And I love it!
I am so, so, soooo excited with the way these are turning out. This edition needed to be done, and it's just absolutely amazing!
Also, here's the next interior!
